Bulk Bolus Breakfast
This recipe can be used for feeding a patient by feeding tube or by mouth for an adult or child learning to eat again after a traumatic brain injury or a patient on a soft blended diet. Strawberry's and berries in general are good for the brain as well as barley which is a whole grain and used in baby cereal as it is good for a developing brain. Whole grains are also good for stabilizing blood sugar which is important to brain health. And the omega 3 fatty acids in the ground flax seeds and walnuts are also good for the brain.
3 cups cooked Pearl Barley, Oatmeal or Quinoa
32 fl oz or 4 cups Almond, Cashew or Coconut Milk (homemade or store bought)
12- 14 Strawberries (cleaned and stems removed)
4 tbsp. Nutritional Essentials with 22 amino acids or any powered vitamins with probiotics and vitamin D 3 as recommended by your doctor or nutritionist
4 tbsp. Ground Flax seeds
½ cup Walnuts
Cook barley 2 ½ cups water bring to boil add 1 cup Pearl Barley cook according to package directions cool, add other ingredients, add to blender and blend until smooth, makes 4, 12 oz servings.
